In conjunction with our studies this year, we will be
watching two films during class which are rated PG. The school policy on
in-class videos states, “In addition to (and following) approval by administration,
any video or clip with an MPAA rating of ‘PG’ will also require approval from
all parents of students in the class where the video will be shown.”
The films we will be watching have been preapproved by
school administration:
Hamlet (1990, starring Mel Gibson)
Gandhi (1982, starring Ben Kingsley)
For your information, two brief moments with suggestive
content during Hamlet will not be
shown during class. Likewise, Gandhi will be filtered for the use of strong
language.
I appreciate the power that film has, for good or bad, in
the lives of all of us. I have tried to select films that will support the
values we all share and which will enliven the curriculum. I appreciate any feedback you may have.
